Another Microsoft loss… two fold
So I just received my brand new copy of Office 2011 for Mac. Outlook (as opposed to Entourage) is the new big draw card for Office Mac this release. Many early reviews complain about the new version of Outlook: many believing that it is not a far enough step towards the PC version. Whilst I agree somewhat, at least it’s moving in the right direction layout and functionality wise. But it’s still not fantastic. I’m sure they’re doing this on purpose to try and bring me back to a PC platform. But there is no chance in hell that will ever happen… The only applications that crash on my Mac are Microsoft applications. Go figure.
The upgrade process was, however, easy and it gave me an excuse to clean up my contacts.
Whilst doing so I tested a new feature that allows you to view a map using the Bing engine when you click on contact’s address. But check out the inaccuracy when Bing attempts to locate our office address at 2/46 Easey Street Collingwood VIC 3066!

An example of Bing's poor map accuracy
Indeed this was the first and last time I’ll use Bing to find a business in Australia.
So, what’s the lesson here?
If you’re a business registering your details online, don’t waste your time with Bing maps. the answer is emphatically: “Google”. Additionally, don’t bother referencing Bing from your website. Stick with what we web masters all know and love (within reason).
